Located on Lingshan Island in China, the “Seashell house” was created by Xiao Yongsheng who came up with a unique way to renovate his home. Volcanically formed, the 3-mile long Lingshan Island sits in the Yellow Sea about 6 miles from shore. It is a popular tourist destination and known for its lush, green vegetation and great local seafood.
Yongsheng wanted to improve his home but was dismayed by the high costs quoted by architects. While walking on the beach one day, the realization came to him—he was sitting on a goldmine of free building materials! Over the next 2 years, Yongsheng covered every surface of his home with over 100 million seashells, and the result is stunning!
His home is now open to the public and is surely getting a few looks!
