Poway is an inland community located in the northern portion of San Diego. Its name comes from a Kumeyaay word which may translate roughly to “meeting of the valleys.” Fittingly, the most heavily populated parts of the area lie in a flat expanse of land surrounded by several lofty peaks. The area has many shopping and dining options along Poway Road, and a large business park to the south.

What’s Cool About Poway
Kids (and kids at heart) can take a ride on Old Poway Park’s miniature train, or get a taste of Poway’s past by exploring the Heritage Museum and Nelson House. Farmer’s markets are also held there from June to September. For those seeking a more nature-oriented refuge, Lake Poway is the ideal spot for activities as diverse as archery, hiking, fishing and horseback riding. Over half a dozen golf courses toward the north and west offer enough variety to satisfy any player. Residents can catch a show or a concert at the Poway Center for Performing Arts, and popular restaurants in the area serve up a variety of cuisines, from the innovative rolls at Poway Sushi Lounge to the comforting soul food at Luc’s Bistro.
To the east of Poway is Ramona, to the south is Scripps Ranch, to the west is Rancho Bernardo, and to the north is Escondido. You can reach Del Mar’s gorgeous coast in about 20 minutes, and the nearby I-15 takes you down into central San Diego. The affluent residents are mostly married and tend to have large families. Homes in the area usually fall into the 3-4 bedroom range and newer ones are often situated on large plots of land. Overall, Poway is a peaceful and prosperous town with a welcoming rural atmosphere.
