Question:
“My wife and I are first time homebuyers. How many homes do you think we should see before we decide on one to buy?”
Answer:
Once you start seriously looking for a home, I’ve found most people physically walk through about ten (not counting open houses) before they choose the one they want to buy.
If you’ve toured much more than ten, look at your criteria again to be sure you’re being realistic.
You don’t want to get in a holding pattern, seeing home after home after home, hoping in vain to find the perfect home that just doesn’t exist, or doesn’t exist in your price range.
So if you haven’t find the home you want, re-examine your…
- Price range
- Location
- Property type (house vs. townhouse vs. condo)
- # Bedrooms
- # Baths
- Size
- Condition
- Amenities (garage, pool, yard size, view, etc.)
…and adjust them if needed.
