Ocean Beach is a coastal community located in the central portion of San Diego. It is bordered by Pacific Beach and the mouth of the San Diego River to the north, surrounded by Point Loma to the east and south. Its terrain starts off flat at the beach and slopes gradually upward as one moves to the southeast, allowing for ocean views even from farther away.

What’s Cool About Ocean Beach
You can find the area’s restaurants and shops along Sunset Cliffs Boulevard and the western half of Newport Avenue. Small family-owned shops and businesses are prevalent here, although this trend is slowly changing as more chain stores trickle in. A few parks can be found in Ocean Beach’s northeastern corner, including the Robb Athletic Field, which features extensive sports facilities and a skate park. The beaches that give the community its name are located in its northwest corner, including Dog Beach to the north. The scenic Ocean Beach Pier is the only spot in the region where fishing is allowed without a license. Walking alongside Sunset Cliffs to the south and watching the waves roll in can be a truly breathtaking experience. Ocean Beach also hosts an annual street fair, a jazz festival, a kite festival, and extravagant holiday celebrations.
The Interstate 8 begins in Ocean Beach and travels east to connect with the rest of San Diego. Ocean Beach’s population is skewed toward unmarried adults, and some of the hippie culture of yesteryear is alive and well here. Homes tend to be slightly on the small side, and rents are fairly cheap. This area is ideal for those looking for coastal access, a laid-back pace, and a friendly community. By Gary Kent
