We’re back once again for another edition of “Story Time With Gary.” This week’s story comes from a time when foreclosures were the name of the game.
During the foreclosure crisis, myself and my right-hand man, Kevin, bid on a few foreclosures. There was one property we looked at in particular that we were really looking forward to bidding on. It was a beautiful home in Pacific Beach.
We didn’t end up with the winning bid, so we kind of forgot about the house. Coincidentally, the owner of the house next door to it called me the next week because they were interested in selling.
After I talked to them, I noticed that the new owner of the home we wanted to bid on was there. He invited me inside, and we got to chatting. Once I stepped inside, I was shocked. The interior of the home was completely gutted. There was no kitchen, bathroom, and the walls were all studs.
Thank goodness we didn’t bid on this home because it would have taken a lot of work and a lot of money to sell it. It was basically an empty shell. The owner also said something strange as I was leaving. He pointed to the stone on the outside of the home and told me it had “magical powers.” He said this with a straight face. Another good reason not to buy the home.
“Thank goodness we didn’t bid on that home.”
The moral of the story, if there is one, is this: Be very careful when bidding on foreclosures because they can really end up biting you.
