Valley Center
Located in the hills northeast of Escondido and east of Fallbrook, Valley Center is a sprawling area of mostly homes on large parcels of land. The agricultural flavor of the town is hard to miss, from the feed stores along the main road to the forests of avocado and citrus groves. Horse breeding ranches are surrounded by a mixture of large and larger home sites.

Valley Center supports its western-style lifestyle of horses and ranches while the area starts to include more of a bedroom-community feel. Some change to the area has come from two major casinos, Harrah’s Rincon and Valley View, which were built in early 2000s. Another longtime business is Bates Nut Farm, whose shops and petting zoo make it a popular family destination. Hellhole Canyon Preserve to the east—much nicer than it sounds—provides ample trails for hikers, bikers and equestrians. Valley Center is an ideal choice for anyone looking for a rural atmosphere that’s hard to come by around San Diego.
